Parenting for the Future:
Raising Kids to Thrive in a Changing World™

As a mother to two awe-inspiring girls – one a member of Generation Z and the other a member of the Alpha Generation, Petal Modeste is keenly aware of how quickly the world is changing. The Pew Research Center and others predict dramatic demographic and technological shifts will impact our world between 2025 and 2050: the disappearance of a racial or ethnic majority in the US; the replacement of 48% of human workers in developed countries by artificial intelligence; the explosion of the world’s population to 9.6 billion people, 6.1 billion of whom will have access to cell phones; increased environmental degradation that will expose over 90% of the globe to unsafe outdoor pollution.
For parents and other caregivers of children between the ages of 0-18 these pending changes and current challenges present a unique quagmire. How do we prepare our charges for the world in which they will come of age? How do we help them leverage technology and the other unique characteristics of their generations to eradicate the effects of centuries of greedy exploitation which has led to so much inequity in our world? How do we train them to channel their passions and interests into creating a world where character, intellect and talent dictate fate rather than gender, skin color or geography? How do we help them find themselves, their purpose and true happiness and help others to do so?
Petal’s podcast, Parenting for the Future, is her quest for those answers.
Every week, she will engage with leading minds in developmental psychology, science, education, positive psychology, sociology, religion, public policy, business and technology. Together they will explore concepts like resilience, grit, mindset, human learning, creativity, greed, competition, problem solving and the meaning of love, safety and happiness. Petal will also talk to children who are already working to shape their futures and to other pioneers paving the way for every child to thrive, find happiness and make their special contribution.
Through story sharing and synthesizing scientific and empirical knowledge, the Parenting for the Future Podcast will help all of us raise the next generation of powerful, purposeful people, prepared to lead positive change in the world.
